The Summer Palace - The Temple of Heaven Park - Qianmen Dashilan

After breakfast at the hotel, visit The Summer Palace, one of the most beautiful imperial gardens in the world; explore The Temple of Heaven Park, the largest and best-preserved ancient heaven-worshipping architectural complex in the world; and visit Qianmen Dashilan (Historic Commercial Street) which gathers numerous Chinese time-honored brands and is the birthplace of early commerce in Beijing.

The Summer Palace

Located in the northwestern suburbs of Beijing, covering an area of 3.009 square kilometers, the Summer Palace was formerly known as Qingyi Garden. It was first built in the 15th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1750) as a large natural landscape garden. Burned down by the Anglo-French Allied Forces in 1860, it was reconstructed in 1886 with funds misappropriated from the navy by the Qing government and renamed the Summer Palace two years later. Using Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill as the site, and taking the scenery of the West Lake in Hangzhou as a blueprint, it was built by absorbing some design techniques and artistic conceptions of Jiangnan gardens. It is the best-preserved imperial palace garden, known as the "Museum of Imperial Gardens".

The Temple of Heaven Park

It served as the venue for the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties to hold heaven-worshipping, grain-praying, and rain-praying ceremonies during the Winter Solstice, and is the largest existing ancient sacrificial architectural complex in China. First built in the 18th year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (1420), it was initially called the Temple of Heaven and Earth. After the functions of worshipping heaven and earth were separated in the 9th year of the Jiajing reign (1530), it was renamed the Temple of Heaven. The Temple of Heaven consists of an inner altar and an outer altar, with main buildings concentrated in the inner altar, such as the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Imperial Vault of Heaven, and the Circular Mound. With its unique architectural style and profound cultural connotations, it was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1998.

Qianmen Dashilan

First built in the 18th year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (1420), it gathers numerous Chinese time-honored brands, such as Ruifuxiang Silk Store, Neiliansheng Shoe Store, and Zhangyiyuan Teahouse. It is the birthplace of early commerce in Beijing.

Itinerary:

Itinerary: Prince Gong's Mansion Museum - Yonghe Lama Temple - Beijing Confucius Temple - Imperial College - Nanluogu Lane

After breakfast at the hotel, visit the Prince Gong's Mansion Museum,

Yonghe Lama Temple, a royal monastery of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism; explore the Beijing Confucius Temple and Imperial College, which served as the "national temple" for Confucian rituals during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties and Epitome of China's ancient highest educational institution, the "Taixue"; wander through Nanluogu Lane, Beijing's oldest "centipede-shaped" hutong.

Prince Gong's Mansion Museum

Once the residence of Heshen and Prince Yonglin of the Qing Dynasty, it later became the mansion of Prince Gong Yixin. Covering about 60,000 square meters, the mansion consists of a residence and a garden, with over 30 architectural clusters. Its regular layout and exquisite craftsmanship have earned it the saying, "One Prince Gong's Mansion tells half of Qing Dynasty history."

Yonghe Lama Temple

Once the residence of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty, this royal monastery of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism hides thousand-year-old Zen meaning in its seven courtyards amid yellow tiles and red walls. The bronze statue of Zongkapa in the Falun Hall, the 18-meter-high white sandalwood Maitreya Buddha in Wanfu Pavilion, and the "Three Wonders of Woodcarving" (the Five Hundred Arhats Mountain) tell stories of the integration of Han, Tibetan, and Mongolian cultures. As a sacred site for believers to pray and the historical birthplace of Emperor Qianlong, the temple remains steeped in daily life with the "first incense grabbing" on the first day of the lunar month and porridge distribution on Laba Festival.

Beijing Confucius Temple and Imperial College

Beijing Confucius Temple: Serving as the "national temple" for Confucian rituals during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, it preserves the essence of Confucian culture. Ten dragon-carved pillars stand majestically in front of the Dacheng Hall, and 198 imperial examination merit steles bear the names of over 60,000 scholars. The ancient cypresses seem to echo with the recitations of students. As the second-largest Confucius Temple in China, it not only attracts cultural pilgrims but also keeps the tradition of respecting teachers and education alive through the intangible cultural heritage of "Confucian ritual dances".

Imperial College: A miniature of China's ancient highest college, the "Taixue", separated from the Confucius Temple by only a wall. The path of Ming and Qing scholars from "Jiansheng" (imperial students) to "Jinshi" (metropolitan graduates) is clearly traceable here.

Nanluogu Lane

Beijing's oldest "centipede-shaped" hutong, 800 years of history string together stories of 87 siheyuans (quadrangle dwellings). The wisteria at Qi Baishi's former residence, the stone lions of Sengge Rinchen's mansion, and the modern siheyuan renovations in Ju'er Hutong mix with the aroma of coffee from literary shops and the 吆喝 of sugar-coated haws. The brick carvings in Mao'er Hutong and the homestays in Yuer Hutong make this "most Beijing-style" alley a living museum where ancient and modern blend.

After breakfast at the hotel, take a vehicle to 798 Art Zone. Then enjoy the Chinese Acrobatic Performance, where intangible cultural heritage skills collide with modern choreography.

798 Art Zone

Originally known as the "Beijing North China Wireless Joint Equipment Factory" (Joint Factory 718), the 798 complex was built in the 1950s with Soviet aid and designed by East Germany. In 1964, Factory 718 was split into several smaller factories, with Factory 798 being one of them. Beginning around 2002, attracted by its affordable rents, artists' studios and contemporary art institutions started gathering in the 798 factory complex. Over time, it organically evolved into a thriving artistic community. In the eyes of both international and domestic media, the 798 Art Zone now stands as a cultural landmark that offers the West a window into Beijing and contemporary China.

Chinese Acrobatic Performance

Interpreting "shock, danger, wonder, and beauty" amid sonorous drums and music—intangible cultural heritage skills collide with modern choreography to create a stunning spectacle.
